If you've got a Puretek Voice/Fax/Modem PT-3011 Rockwell K56Flex, then you might want to read this.
There's been a few problems with this modem, and it's been very hard to get the drivers and firmware upgrades. But finally, here's the V.90 upgrade for Denmark that should fix all the problems.

Puretek Voice/Fax/Modem PT-3011 Download V.90 Upgrade for Denmark

Puretek are getting their act together, so these days it's worth checking out their web site to see if there's anything new.

If you don't want to use the V.90 firmware and drivers, then please read on:
The main problem with the old software was that the connect speed of the modem was by default too high, causing errors in the download data stream. The temporary fix was to release a modem.inf driver that limited the connect speed to 44k regardless of the line quality.

If your modem driver is limited to a connect speed of 44k baud, then here's the original and best driver that I've used. It doesn't limit the speed like the newer driver, and it works for win95, win98, and NT4. Puretek & Aus.Linx(TW) 56000bps External Fax Voice Modem driver.

If you are using the original driver, then go to the control panel/modem/advanced settings and add an init string +MS=56,1,34000,44000,1,0%E0%C2
The 44000 value is the setting for the max speed you will allow for the connection. Change this value until you get a reliable connection. The other parameters are:
%e0=disable line quality monitor and retrain
%c2=enable v42bis data compression

Don't forget though, these settings are only for the old K56 Flex firmware. If you are using the V.90 firmware and drivers, then there's no need to do any of this.

BTW, I don't use this modem anymore, but it's a good modem and I do recommend it. I've now moved to ISDN because it works out cheaper for the way I use the internet.

We all like to see win98 crash, so here's the clip

This is a great program for printing CD cover labels. It's cdrLabel v4.1

This lets you play Screamer 2 with no CD in the drive. scr2cd.zip

If you live in Frederikshavn, Denmark and you are hungry, then here are some take-out menus I recommend.

Other things that I find generally useful:

All I wish I never had to know about serial cables

Here's the latest version of the Microsoft mouse driver for DOS. I hope I'm not breaking any copyright laws.

If you are going to format your disk, then make sure you have a cdrom driver for DOS. There's a few of the more useful ones here, which should work with just about any IDE-CDROM.

You might be wondering why there's any DOS stuff here. The reason is that the worst problems happen when you are in DOS, but these bits of software should help you to install something else. Personally, I would recommend NT 4.0 with SP3, or RedHat Linux 4.1 for anyone who is serious about using a computer.

Thinking about using the newsgroups? Then go here first to see what *not* to do.
